"A cat is a commitment," Sheppards starts with. Waits for Andrew's unimpressed expression before he continues. "But you're not worried about the hypothetical cat in this scenario. Your concern is with Neil. And I think you're considering how it'll feel for someone — who, as far as I have gathered, moves with only a single bag worth of items — to have something permanently tying him to the house. And to you. You're worried about making him feel... Hm, what word would you be thinking of?"
The answer is clear enough for Andrew to fill in. Trapped. The door locked.
Sheppards knows it too. It's exactly why he's left it for Andrew to fill in the blank.
The hypothetical cat: a promise, a tether. Something Neil should hate the idea of. And yet, apparently, something he is considering anyway.
