It could be a request for aid from his subordinates. It could be a summon from his boss. It could be a string of relentless prank calls from his stupid, bandaged fish of a partner.

To reply to a text, to pick up a ringing phone with a foreign caller ID, to respond to a cry from his people— no matter how far.

Kyojuro Rengoku loves his father. Truly, there was never a more dutiful and dedicated son. But, when he comes home after a mission to find that his father is responsible for injuring his beloved younger brother, Senjuro, he know that they can no longer live under the same roof as him. He'll never give up on his belief that his father will one day regain himself to the man he once knew, but until that happens, he needs to do what is best for Senjuro.
Kyojuro loves his father, but he loves his little brother more.
Now without a place to call home, Kyojuro and Senjuro receive aid from an unexpected source, the standoffish Water Pillar, Tomioka Giyu, offers the Water Estate as a place of refuge for the two to stay. While grateful for the offer, and an end to their plight, Kyojuro is also eager to take this new cohabitation to learn more about his elusive coworker. He will soon find this a greater challenge than he originally anticipated, but he is nothing if not determined. Karai Bari was supposed to be safe. Safe and secure and free of overdramatic idiots. Hence why Buggy felt he was very much entitled to his reaction when he saw the World's Greatest Swordsman lounging in his tent.
"How the flashy fuck did you find me here?" Buggy screeched, keeping himself from coming apart just through sheer muscle memory alone. He had not been expecting Mihawk anytime soon - or ever preferably -, especially since he had gone to great lengths to hide exactly what island he had holed up on.
But nooo, he returned to his office and just had to find the swordsman sitting at his desk pretty as you please, sipping the only drink Buggy had around. Which wasn't even half-bad, making the clown pirate quite irate that half the bottle was already gone.
"I asked Shanks." Mihawk answered.
He asked. He asked Shanks. Buggy was going to strangle his dumbass brother. What the flashy fuck? He barely managed to get rid of Crocodile, his soulmate more awkward than Buggy had ever seen him in his life, switching between being his usual antagonistic self and almost praising him, and just when the pirate clown thought he was flashy fine his brother outed his location to Mihawk.

The girl whimpered in her sleep, curled in her brother's side. The boy's hands twitched, small bandages peppering his arms where the fire had gotten to him while trying to protect his sister. Shamrock was still unsure why he had saved them - his trip to Flevance had been meant for information only, to see if anything could be recovered from the destruction. He had almost passed them by; wouldn't have seen them at all if the girl hadn't whimpered, if her brother hadn't shushed her desperately, voice cracking as he begged her to stay awake for a while longer.
The moment his eyes fell on them, the boy jumped to his feet and almost toppled, a too small rock in his hands the only protection he had for himself and his sister.
They were small. Too small and weak, fragile. Delicate even, with their white marked skin and shivering bodies.
Broken, the doctor had said and Shamrock had wanted to snap at him in anger.
Or Shanks had a plan. His brother's children were not part of it. (They are now.)
