“It sure as hell looks like it’s like that,” Jack said, his anger bleeding through despite his best effort to keep himself in check.
Robby looked directly at Jack for the first time since Jack had arrived. His eyes held a mix of shame and pain, and Jack was furious at the thought that somehow Robby thought he had to excuse the person who’d done this to him. Jack woke with a pounding headache. He groaned as sunlight filtered in through his blackout curtains (misleading name, he really needed to get a refund for those). He hauled himself out of bed and steadied himself on his crutches as he made his way to the bathroom. He looked like complete shit—very clearly hungover, sweaty and tired and strung out. He splashed cold water over his face and took an Advil before collapsing back into bed.
He reached for his phone to check the time. 7:03 AM. Thankfully, he wasn’t working later that night and could spend the day recuperating. He swiped open his phone to check his messages, but was instead greeted by a typo-ridden note written at 2:43 AM.

The second that the notification went off, damning and intimately familiar, Jack's head snapped over and Robby, wide-eyed, flushed a deep shade of red as he fumbled with his phone to turn the sound off. Surely he'd misheard. There was no one else around to corroborate, otherwise Jack might've turned to them with a questioning look, a, did you hear that too?
The blush on Robby's face was telling enough, muttered apologies falling from his lips as he tucked his phone away again, steadfastly refusing to meet Jack's eyes.
A lot of things crossed his mind at once. Chief among them was the dawning realization that Robby's once-upon-a-time hookup with some guy in college wasn't, apparently, a drunken mistake. And behind it, something darker — jealousy.
