    Summary

Armand is well familiar with discomfort. And Armand is rewarded when Louis murmurs, “Bon garçon,” and removes his fingers to trace his mouth

You have never been good. You have not been a boy in an eternity. You will be a boy forever.

“Merci, Maître,” Armand says softly instead.

    ────────────────

Armand is unsettled, and Louis is distant. Their usual games take a turn.

A little discomfort that pays off nice. He thinks he’s starting to get it. There’s an appeal to tiring, making this frozen body feel something. Feeling human again, he supposes.

Lestat doesn’t want to pursue that thought. He’s not sure where it leads.

“You want me feisty?” Daniel tries to tease back, but again, his voice wavers. “You could’ve had me feisty.” Could’ve had me any way you wanted.

    Yeah?

Still can. Who am I kidding.

And Louis says it, out loud, firm but quiet, soft but sure: “Good thing I want you exactly as you are.”

    Summary

Lestat gnaws on his lip. “You needed me,” he says, and Louis would think he might sound a little happier about that, until he says, “To hurt yourself.”

A thousand acrid, sharp rebuttals rise to Louis’s lips. He swallows them. “Yes,” he says again.

Lestat looks at him. His eyes are heavy, full, but what they’re full of, Louis doesn’t know. “Would you, then?” he says eventually.

    “What?”

    “Show me. Kill me again.”

    Summary

February 11th, 1990. A reading in Amherst, Massachusetts. Four students attend, three are there for extra credit, one is there for you to use, which you do, aggressively, in your rental car in the garage of your Northampton hotel. I make sure the boy makes it home and forgets the event.

The boy slides into the passenger seat.

Armand knows where they are going. The college has paid Daniel a neat speaking fee, especially neat for such a small crowd and easy pickings, and arranged for him to have a hotel some ten minutes away in Northampton. For the past two days, Daniel has parked on the always empty fourth level of the parking garage, where he can smoke a cigarette undisturbed and more.

Armand is already sitting in the shadows on a curb stop when the pair pulls in. The car reeks of Pall Malls and anxious excited sweat. He can taste the boy's daydreams. The invitation to the room, the large plush bed with too many pillows, something from the minibar, and maybe room service, if he's lucky.

And Armand already knows that Daniel has no such plans.
