Lily groaned as the other fifth year boys settled around them at the table.
“Not you, of course, Evans. You always look lovely. But Sirius and Mary look about to hurl and McKnickers could do with a long shower,” He gave a silly look to Marlene, “You are absolutely ripe.”
Marlene merely groaned and shielded her eyes, “I’ll let that comment slide if you give me back my glasses. Your boyfriend stole them.”
“Remus, have you stolen Marlene’s glasses?” James asked with a twitch of his lips.
“ ‘Fraid not.”
“Pete?”
“Oh no, not me.”
Mary snickered and Lily had to hold back a grin by biting her lip.
Marlene merely scowled, “The other one, Potty.”
“Oh! You mean my husband? Sirius, love, will you give Marly back her sunnies?” James threw an arm around his best mate's shoulder, ignoring the huff that it resulted in.
“Anything for you, baby.”

Summary
James was an only child, and he was raised in a sprawling estate by two elderly parents and a kindly house elf. He did not know much about sharing a living space with another kid, but he figured if someone was crying in their collective room, it was probably their collective problem.
Boundaries and subtlety were not in James Potter’s vocabulary, so he went to investigate. He crept out of bed and swept the drawn curtains to his roommate’s new sleeping quarters aside.
The sight that greeted him was alarming; Sirius Black was curled into himself, puffy faced and choking on sobs. He looked so different from the rambunctious boy on the train that James had grown so fond of in so little time.
Or: James and Sirius together and apart through the years and abuse.

Summary
Maddy’s golden head had been buried in Ronan's shoulder as she sobbed. Dechtire sported a busted lip from the punch Ronan had thrown after Dec broke the news that they were leaving The Barns. Gansey stood just behind the Lynch sisters, Ronan could reach her hand back and find some sort of comfort if she wanted.
She didn’t.
Aurora wasn’t there. She was tucked away, sound asleep at an inpatient facility in D.C.
It had been a closed casket for the wake, so no one had to be subjected to the bloody mangled mess that was Niall Lynch’s body. No one but Ronan, of course.
“-through our Lord Jesus Christ; who shall change our vile body, that it may be like unto his glorious body, according to the mighty working, whereby he is able to subdue all things to himself,” Ronan really hoped the priest was right about vile bodies being changed.
She closed her eyes in the silent prayer that she so often repeated: please.
Or: Ronan loses her herself, her home, her family and then her faith. In not quite the same order she finds them all again.

Summary
James Potter dies on a Saturday. Lily Potter dies on a Sunday, approximately seven minutes after midnight. The night is foggy and grey and looming like a bad omen. It feels like the world is ending. But, it resolutely, does not end.
They do not miraculously speak or laugh or move. They do not rise from the dead. They remain corpses.
On Monday Sirius Black aches for death.
It does not come.

Summary
Eddie has relatively low expectations for the summer before senior year. Two months alone in a beach house, third wheeling his two best friends isn't ideal, but it could definitely be worse. He's expecting to study for the SAT's on the beach, get a nice tan and maybe go to a party or two. He's not expecting three new best friends, late night bonfires or a truck full of weed. Above it all, he's certainly not expecting to fall for the floppy haired lifeguard, Richie Tozier.

Bill is an exceptional lightweight.
Stan is an excellent ex-lifeguard.
Ben is feeling left out.
Bev is a rooftop enthusiast.
Mike is a god and a vegan.
Eddie is sort of falling in love and kind of falling apart.

Music played through the hallway, soft and familiar, beckoning Mike to continue forward. David Bowie. There was something distorted in the way it played, Mike couldn't figure out where it came from, stretching every word like the song would continue to play forever but never quite reach the ending.
He doesn't remember the last time he heard a song finish.
"Mike?"
Holly's quiet voice chimes out from downstairs, searching for him.
His head whips around, but the movement unsteadies him, and his shoe presses down onto the landing before he can fall. Mike is turned around, confused, and delirious —

“We haven’t done this since middle school,” Will says, voice barely above a whisper.
“Huh,” Mike whispers back. “Yeah, guess not.”
A couple years ago, Mike read a National Geographic article about a phenomenon called the polar night. In the farthest north and south regions of the globe, there are weeks, sometimes months depending on how close you are to the poles, where the sun does not rise above the horizon, plunging the world into a perpetual nighttime. Living in such conditions, the article had explained, can affect one’s circadian rhythm, heighten issues with concentration and energy levels, and cause a spike in depressive symptoms among local populations. Some resort to using light therapy lamps to mimic the daylight.
It was only after the Byers moved away, all those years ago, that Mike began to understand what the prolonged absence of the sun can do to a person.
The Upside Down is gone, and everyone has made it out unscathed. In the aftermath of the not-so-end of the world, snowballs turn into avalanches. Sometimes it just takes time.
or: Mike gets into Brown, Will gets into RISD, and the friends-to-???-to-lovers slowburn that ensues.

Summary
“Come on,” Mike argues. “Think of it like… a test drive. You’ll get the full Mike Wheeler boyfriend experience. It’s miserable! You’ll be over me in no time!”
They only have one last summer before they go off to college, and Will is sick of keeping his cards so close to his chest. So, in a fit of alcohol-induced bravery, he tells Mike everything.
Instead of breaking his heart, Mike proposes a deal: they’ll date for the summer. Get Mike out of Will’s system, show him he makes for a lousy boyfriend anyway, and make sure there aren’t any what-ifs waiting for him in New York.
No stone left unturned, after all.
Or: Summer brings clouds, nostalgia, and the all-consuming fear of change. They deal with it.
