It’s quiet for a moment, and then, tentatively, Dream asks, “is that why, George? Did you kiss me because you were tired?”
“Mhm,” George rubs his eyes as hard as he can.
“Okay. But if it was for another reason, I promise I wouldn’t be mad at that, either,” Dream says, and his voice is so soft, like he’s speaking to a spooked animal.
George steps back from Dream’s hold, his hands coming down and his eyes finally meeting Dream’s. “I don’t know what you mean by that,” he says, trying to make his voice hard, but it just comes out slightly cracked. Wild panic makes a home in his chest.
“George you have to know I–,” Dream says, “like you have to know.”
