Summary
For better or worse, Alhaitham wasn’t left alone with his thoughts for long.
The bright green glow on the wall would’ve tipped off even an amateur. If not that, then the not-so-quiet “Fuck” Kaveh let out after slamming his foot into the wall.
If he didn’t already understand how these dreams worked, he would’ve been worried for Kaveh’s safety.
Lucky for him, this wasn’t real. Kaveh would stay alive as long as Alhaitham remembered that.

Kaveh rushes to pick himself up from the floor, bracing himself on the bedside table when his knees start wobbling. “Cyno! Good, you’re here, uh—“ He winces and rubs the back of his head. “Okay, wait…why are you– whatever, that doesn’t matter. So this means that we didn’t get kidnapped last night. Great, that’s…one question answered, at least.”
Cyno looks between him and Tighnari, raising an eyebrow. “Anything else you want to comment on?”
“I’m almost afraid to ask,” Kaveh laughs, strained and panicked.
“I’m not,” Tighnari says groggily from the bed. “Can you please tell us what happened?”
“You two got married last night.”

Summary
Hair in a bun, skates laid out on the floor, and an idle tune hummed under his breath — he’s nearly set.
His phone starts ringing while he’s rushing towards a bench to put down his belongings, and he scrambles to reach for it in the depths of his bag. He finds it, finger poised to answer as he looks up.
And that’s when he sees him.
Even through the hockey helmet, Kaveh can see the familiar traces of gray hair. If the height and broad build weren’t a dead giveaway, that certainly squandered any doubt. Alhaitham. The Sumeru Jackals hockey team’s main defenseman. Of course… who else could it be?
Kaveh stares at him for a beat too long before snapping himself out of it. There’s no way. There is no way he’s here.

Summary
"I'll see you at dinner! Lambad’s, 6:00. Don't be late!”
Kaveh is not there when Alhaitham arrives at Lambad's Tavern at 5:59 sharp.
Alhaitham sits in their usual booth alone until the tavern closes, drawing concerned and pitied whispers from patrons and wait staff alike. It's clear that, despite his fame and status, their Acting Grand Sage has been stood up by whoever was supposed to be joining him for dinner and drinks.
Kaveh is not in his room either when Alhaitham returns home, confused and more than a little annoyed at being left alone for an evening meant to be shared.
The moon is high in the sky, Sumeru City is sleeping peacefully, and yet there is still no Kaveh.

That is why, when the Matra informed him of his roommate's failure to appear at a conference that morning, Alhaitham knew right away that it was no ordinary occurrence.
(an AU in which Alhaitham decides that the Matra simply are not fast enough at investigating Sumeru's most high-profile kidnapping case, and decides to rescue his roommate himself.)
