The clack of her heels echoed against stone as Rishe aimlessly wandered the halls of the villa, no destination in mind. The outside was bleak with grey skies and imminent rain, the harsh winds making the villa colder and darker than it usually was, despite the bright light radiating from candles and lamps gracing the hallways. Even though the palace was bustling with maids and other staff, Rishe felt lonely, lonelier than ever. Arnold was busy with paperwork and winter inspections, making it difficult for her to stop by and spend some time with him. She couldn’t bring herself to disrupt his work, after all.
I miss him. He’s been so busy that he hardly has time to sleep. And he hasn’t even come back to our room recently. I wonder if he’s eating and resting enough. Rishe pulled her cloak tighter around herself, eyes trained on her heels as she continued walking.
