Summary
She came into this knowing opening a restaurant was a total nightmare and how Carmy-like Carmy was. She had also thought they were doing this together. It was all I don’t even want to do this without you until he ignored all of her ideas and you’re not alone, Syd but she felt pretty fucking alone.

Summary
If you asked her approximately thirty six hours ago, she would have said her and Steve Harrington were co-workers. Co-workers, in the light-hearted bickering yet stay-on-your-side-of-the-freezer-while-stocking sort of way, even if Robin had grown to not mind his presence so much as the summer progressed. At the very least, his attempt to pick up chicks while slinging ice cream was pretty entertaining. So, yeah, they were co-workers, which was a step above the apparently one-sided acquaintanceship they had before, given Steve introduced himself on their first day like they didn’t share a row in Mrs. Click’s class for a whole year.
Maybe, if you held her at gunpoint, she might even admit they were friends.

It's the night after the almost-end of Hawkins, Indiana - Robin doesn't think she will ever get used to this. (Weirdly, she does. Even weirder? She does it along side Steve Harrington.)

Summary
“I’m not telling you to upset you.” They’ve only been on the phone for six minutes and thirty seven seconds, and Maddie was already pacing the length of her apartment. “I am calling you because Evan is sick and he’s upset.”
This was well-treaded territory: anytime she even remotely suggested they could do more parenting, Maddie was apparently throwing the their greatest tragedy in their face. Instead of any effort on their part, she only ever received we tried or it’s always an accident or he needs to grow up. Which meant it was always up to Maddie, and Maddie had to figure out how to deal with her own problems and emotions on her own.
“No, I didn’t tell him,” she snapped, the accusation rolling over her in a wave of anger. Her parents certainly trusted her to handle herself and Evan in nearly all capacities growing up, but never with this situation, “but maybe we should.”

Summary
“Yeah, sorry about that, I was just tired, you know. But I’m good, yeah,” Maddie said, trying to shake herself out of that doomed one-way train of thought. Athena’s tone may have been casual, but they were edging towards things Maddie would rather avoid. Suddenly feeling like she might as well have been in an interrogation room with all of the impending scrutiny, Maddie began looking for a way out. “Do you want some coffee, or something else to drink?“

A conversation between Maddie and Athena between seasons four and five.

Summary
If Buck was capable of forming coherent thoughts at the moment, he thinks he would have said something along the lines of a very mature you’re not my boss anymore. As it was, though, making any amount of eye contact with Eddie and later calling Maddie back to convince her to stay at dispatch managed to use any remaining cognitive capacity he had for the day. And that was with Chim doing most of the talking. So he said nothing, and sat.

Summary
Chim had left to cover a shift. Jee-Yun was crying and as usual Maddie could not find any way to soothe her. Maddie knew then - she couldn’t stay here anymore. She had to go. So Maddie called Anne who doesn’t even hesitate before agreeing to come watch Jee-Yun despite having no notice. Nice, caring Anne who was a better mother than Maddie could ever be. Who probably already forgave Maddie for leaving as Anne was still mid-sentence. Jee-Yun would be safe with Anne. Then Chim would get home and everything would be fine. He’s great with Jee-Yun. Loves her and cares for her and soothes her.
They don’t need Maddie. They would be better without her.

Summary
Somehow she doesn’t think Evan will mind. Ever since he got his license a few months ago, he is willing to drive anywhere for almost any reason. Plus, it has been a while since they’ve seen each other. And he owes her for picking his very drunk self up from Derek Lisland’s homecoming party. Maddie was even nice enough not to mention it to their parents.
Feeling justified, Maddie calls her brother. He answers after their fourth ring, with a mumbled sound that was probably supposed to be a hello.
- or -Seven times it is Buck & Maddie versus the world and one time they realize it is.
