“Fuck,” Rusty said. Then, quieter, as if to himself, “fuck, fuck, fuck.”
In his peripheral, he saw Danny shoot him a glance from where he was sitting white-knuckled in the driver’s seat. He knew that Danny wouldn’t ask if he was okay–the answer was obvious, and Danny was never one to waste words.
“You’re bleeding all over my car,” he said instead. It was dry, but Rusty picked up on the underlying tightness in his voice.
“If I make it through this alive, I’ll get you another one,” Rusty replied through gritted teeth.
