Summary
It is after she has killed that poor man, and Bonnie stares at her in horror, and Elena has thrown herself in front of her to stop Damon from staking her that Caroline realises everything has changed. She sobs in that tiny toilet and lets Stefan calm her, but she knows this can’t last. Damon has been making his life miserable too and he hasn’t done anything to stop it. How can he possibly help her if he’s not strong enough to go against his brother?
Caroline flees after the carnival, and ends up in New Orleans.

There’s a fire beneath the water that pricked at her eyes. Her nails ground against the floor as her stomach cramped. Her back curled upwards as her head filled with fog. She couldn’t focus on it, not when her left hand still tightly held onto her temporarily deceased guardian.
Her head tilts up meeting Matt’s worried gaze, “Elena. Your eyes.”
“What?” she almost growls, her mind still numb as her insides knotted themselves together.
”They’re…” Matt hesitates as he stands back up from his squat position, “They’re yellow.”

Chapter 17. Esther is Elena's mom, and was turned to break her magic after the Ball. Elena is Klaus' twin, and Evil-laric is around. The Ms don't know about E, but they know Freya is alive. Esther and Ric kidnapped E, and used her as a hostage to make Bonnie boost Ric's reflexes. E took them down after Ric told the Mikaelson's that she's also their sibling.
