“If you slept for much longer, I would have eaten these all, and left none for you,” he teases Barda, looking over his shoulder at her, still crowded against his back. She smiles back at him and presses closer, raising a skeptical eyebrow.
“I doubt that you could have made your way through all the pancakes before I woke up, Scott,” she replies, humor in her voice. She’s right. It’s a completely empty threat. Barda eats a lot more than Scott does to keep up with her constant training and the fact that she towers over him in size and muscularity, but he’s made the joke and he’s going to go die on its hill, like any good showman would.
“Maybe,” he hums faux-thoughtfully. “But I’d lick them all and call dibs, and then they’d be mine, and I could eat them all in peace.”
Barda’s arms curl around him, pulling his body into hers, and he sinks back into the easy warmth of it and settles against her.
“So if I lick it, it’s mine?” Barda asks, lips right next to his ear, the rumble of her voice in her chest pressing against his back, and with a shiver of anticipation Scott realizes his mistake.
