Xiao Zhan had worried the race might not go well — Yibo hadn't had much time to practice on the track, and his schedule had been insane over the last few weeks, making him tired and worn down. There was the weather to contend with and a whole list of other things that could go wrong on a high speed motorcycle.
He'd never expected Yibo would be taken down by another racer. All he could do now was what they always did for each other: be his support. At the end of a hard day, what Yibo needs most is Xiao Zhan — a sounding board to vent the anger and frustration, a soothing voice of comfort, and a soft place to land when the bumps in the road are too much to take on alone.

His throat tightened, and a deep feeling of loss overwhelmed him.
