With a smile that Baelor tried very hard to believe was not directed just at him, the blue-eyed man and his massive steed turned in a flurry of the horse’s white, black, and red caparison, and galloped off to round the arena once more. As he rode, his coif slipped back and away from his hair. Long, strawberry blond locks spilled free to stream out behind him. As he reached the other side of the arena, the knight glanced over and caught Baelor’s eye again.
Oh, Baelor thought. Oh, no.

Pulling the signet ring from his own finger and pressing it into Dunk’s slack hand, then turning to face his brother and nephews, Baelor’s voice rang a challenge across the room. “I have made my choice. Ser Duncan the Tall is my man, and we will be handfasted as soon as the gods allow. Will you withdraw your grievance, Aerion, or will you meet me in a trial by combat on the tournament field for all to watch?"
Or, to save Dunk from fighting in a Trial of Seven, and to save himself from the doom in Daeron's dream, Baelor offers to marry Dunk instead.

From the time of the Andals arrival in Westeros, and the beginning of knighthood in the kingdoms, it is a well-kept tradition for knights to not only swear their oath to the seven, but to preserve a record of the great feats of their own master and his predecessors by way of adding in lines. As such, the lineage of knight to squire is preserved through the memorization and passing of these vows, and while the words are kept secret from all but their own cohort, knights who share the same oathkeeping lineage...
... There are only a handful of famed chivalric lineages that are confirmed to still exist today, most notable amongst them is the oath taken by the Dragonknight Ser Aemon Targaryen, currently preserved by his three known squires, King Daeron Targaryen the Second, his son Prince Baelor Targaryen, and Ser Robyn Rhysling. As with most lineages, it is likely there are other knights within the cohort , but those names have since been lost to time.
