Summary
“Jesus, took you long enough,” John says, adjusting the duffle over his shoulder. “Thought I might be out here til morning at this rate.”
For a second he wonders if he’s drunker than he thought, but no. As far as he can tell, it is still 1980, and he hasn’t seen or so much as spoken to John in ten years.
Or, John comes to stay with Paul in Scotland to ride out the press storm of his divorce to Yoko, and Paul learns to stop running away.

For one last chance to make the most of the decade, Paul and George drop everything for a weekend music festival in New York. Along the way they meet John Lennon and his mates, who make saying goodbye harder than it needs to be.
It’s 1969. It’s Woodstock. It’s one weekend that feels like a lifetime.

“Little by little, yeah.” Like the interstellar binding of dust and gases into a luminous star, maybe; or the slow and complex fusion of cells into a greater organism. Whatever is happening, Paul feels it unfolding at the tips of his fingers and spreading to the soles of his feet.

Otto has run his little shop of cigarettes and snacks and newspapers since the war; he’s seen a thousand faces come through, some staying and some going, some wide-eyed like that unerringly polite, raven-haired choir boy, some scowling and cruel and hopeless like that Teddy boy.
The first time they come in together, Otto thinks it’s a trick.
