It’s a recurring nightmare, but it’s also a glimpse into a prism. It's reality abstracted, cut and pasted upside-down. Still images involuntarily present on the back of Max’s eyelids, equal parts memory and premonition. Chloe presents her with an impossible ultimatum. Rachel waits with bated breath, a doe in the making. In every reality there is a lighthouse that looms above them all, except when it doesn't.

Chloe gives her her favourite expression then, the grin that makes her look both wolfish and hungry. Like she's about to attack. There's something so primal about it, something that makes Max want to claim every inch of Chloe for her own. At the last moment, Chloe’s calloused thumb comes down on the lighter.
The shutter snaps. The flash flickers. The polaroid prints, albeit slowly. Max pinches it by the frame and fans it out of habit.
