Summary
Something peers at him from inside the tank.
Ilya's breath catches in his throat as his own eyes meet those of the being cramped inside the, small, far too small, tank shoved almost haphazardly towards the back of the hold, the brown gaze almost slitted in, Fear? Rage?
Ilya steps forward, trying to get a closer look and the being, the mer, curls into themself further. Their tail trying its best to cover most of their humanoid half, the tank’s limited space preventing them from moving, but still so desperate to hide.
Well, they found what the Voyageurs had been hiding.

Summary
“Why did you want me to meet you here today?” Shane asked. When he’d heard the request, he’d had the same thought as Jared. Was he trying to rub it in? One last chance to retaliate for a long ago rejection?
Shane had almost made it to Rozanov’s room that night in the hotel in Toronto. But when the elevator doors opened, Shane’s feet had stayed glued to the ground.
He’d been so afraid of ruining everything, only to have it ruined for him barely a year later.
Shane does not hook up with Ilya in Toronto. Six years later, his hockey career is long over and he has found a new calling that puts his media training, and his pretty face, to good use.
Consider this a remix of sorts.

Summary
Ilya blinked at the page for a moment, then looked up at Shane and laughed.
Shane immediately grew defensive. "Oh, fuck you! I was trying to be nice." He pulled the book back, but Ilya stopped him when he turned to walk away.
"Shane Hollander."
"What?"
"Privet. Hello."
"Oh." Shane's pronunciation hadn't been remotely close. "And what about...?" He pointed to the Russian phrase he'd overly-ambitiously tried first.
"Dobroye utro."
"Ah. Good morning," Shane said sheepishly.
"Good morning," Ilya repeated with the most genuine smile Shane had seen from him yet.

Ilya Rozanov, rising star of the Soviet Union's infamous Red Army team shocked the world in 1989 when he suddenly defected to Canada to play for a mediocre MLH team.
Shane Hollander, underappreciated and deeply closeted third-liner on said team, was perhaps the most shocked of everyone. The cocky Russian phenom hadn't made the best impression on Shane during a brawl at World Juniors a couple years prior, but when a noticeably sullen Ilya arrived in their locker room, Shane couldn't help but reach out to him.
