Roland gave his appreciation to each for their kind words and reassured any troubled by his appearance that he was perfectly fine – a white lie he spilled while feeling far away from his body, speaking to the servants from somewhere other than here. The castle knows, the kingdom knows, and so he knows that the lightness with which they speak is not out of ignorance and is instead out of respect for him. He would still rather everyone disappear just this one day of the year.
