Summary
Bro’s training wasn’t as straightforward as that, but he had made it abundantly clear to you that when some tribute made an embarassing mistake like this one, they deserved death when it came for them.
And here you are, the death coming for Karkat Vantas. Except your feet don’t want to move. You hadn’t allowed yourself to think it, which is maybe why it hits you so hard right then: That you don’t want to be the one to kill him.
10 years after his brother won the games, Dave volunteers. The same year, Karkat Vantas is reaped.

Summary
Sunrise was still at least an hour away, but there was a slight brightening of the sky along the horizon when Molly said, “She’s a curious thing that little goblin of yours.”
Caleb closed his eyes, just for a moment. It was easy to forget with how loudly he loved to proclaim his lack of interest in the past, but Molly was just as bad at minding his own business as Beau was, even if his social graces were better than hers. Caleb should have known better than to give him an opening.
The Nein try to figure out what is going on between Caleb and Nott. Caleb does too.

Summary
The last golden sunlight of the evening fell over the workshop area where the car sat, hood propped open, tools still scattered on the ground beside it. The boys were there too. There was a moment where Bobby's brain lagged behind his eyes, tried to make it be what he had expected it to be, just the two of them caught up in their own world, heads close together, conspiring.
It wasn’t that.
Sam and Dean stay with Bobby for a couple of weeks one summer.

Summary
“You remember what it’s like though, don’t you?” Dean says, tapping Sam’s knee with the scalpel, a delighted pull at the corner of his mouth when Sam flinches. “Being powerful,” he says. “Being free from all the shame and regret. Not like I was the first one to check out what the demon side has to offer.”
Demon Dean makes Sam drink his blood.

Summary
Dean didn’t even remember the book. Sam was shaking apart, steadying himself against the wall and gesturing wildly as he rambled about King Arthur and his knights, as if it was the most important thing in the world, and if anyone had asked Dean if he ever read to Sam when he was little he would have said hell no, that kid could read before he could walk, I never did that.
Sam and Dean and the books they read as kids and what it means to die for the greater good.

Summary
A problem shaped like seven unexpected mercenaries carrying one of the priceless artifacts he stole arrives on Essek's doorstep, but he can handle it. Is handling it. Will be able to handle it, at some point, if he can figure out how to avoid them killing him first.
(Or: time looping your way into a new alignment, one catastrophic failure at a time.)

Summary
Are you in love with Nott? Beau asked. The answer had been no, of course, and he hadn’t known how to immediately explain it. The wanting feeling. The need. How different that must be from love.

Summary
What crazy luck it was, Richie reflected, to be in an equilibrium such as this one: not popular, exactly, but seen in certain quarters as being, in his intersecting homosexuality and rurality and hyperactivity, at least an interesting novelty; with time to hang out and to fuck around in Final Cut Pro; in love, and periodically catching the eye of the person he was in love with. He still spent a lot of time miserable, but his life was by any external metric less miserable than he’d ever had reason to hope it would be. None of it was likely to end any time soon.

"No, you're absolutely right. He is handsome, and he could do much better than a little freakshow like me. He could meet any girl in town and sweep her off her feet."
