“I did not intend to startle you,” Rashid says, setting aside the tablet he always has clutched in his hands. He hadn’t been using it just now, Daniel’s pretty sure. More prop than anything, set dressing, just like those god-forsaken gloves that he’s still wearing at ass-o-clock in the afternoon.
“Why are you awake,” Daniel says, croaks, still trying to swallow down the sip of water that had caught in his throat.
Rashid laughs, low, and the sound ricochets through the room and straight into the cavern of Daniel’s skull. “You’ve stolen my line, Mr. Molloy.”
