“I don’t think you know what you’re getting yourself into” Ashlyn had said, looking up from her laptop. She was sprawled on the bed in what seemed a really uncomfortable position in Gina’s eyes -at the very least, it was terrible for Ashlyn’s back and posture “Ricky Bowen is bad news”
Gina remembered the way she had rolled her eyes, laughing off Ash’s comment.
“You sound like a movie character. I’ll be fine”
And Gina had really meant it at the time. Her plan was perfect. A little crazy? Sure. Complicated? Also. But overall definitely perfect. And she wasn’t the only one to think so.
“You won’t say I didn’t warn you” Ashlyn had given her a knowing look, like somehow she knew something Gina didn’t
And right now, as she is looking into Ricky Bowen’s challenging brown eyes, his fingers grazing her waist, soft but electric, Gina can’t help but think that Ashlyn might have been onto something.

Summary
“Gi?” Ricky’s voice is soft as he doesn’t want to startle her “hey, what’s wrong?”
Gina just groans and shifts on her back tilting her head up so she can look at him. Her eyes are red, partially open but enough so he can see the glint of annoyance in them. She looks really pale under the dim light of the late afternoon evening and Ricky can see her shiver underneath the blanket.
She really looks terrible.
Ricky is stunned for a second, heart racing at the sight of her sniffles and shaky nose. He has never seen Gina like this before. So out of it.
Gina always looks perfectly put together. She is elegant, she is graceful and absolutely flawless in every situation. Always calm and collected, never one to complain or stay in bed for too long -Ricky obviously is the opposite; messy and lazy always all over the place. That’s probably what makes them great partners.
Partners as roommates, obviously.
Gina Porter is the embodiment of perfection in Ricky's eyes. It had never ever even crossed Ricky’s mind that she could get sick.

Ricky knows he is never going to forgive himself for this. Time stands still. In Gina’s eyes, he can see everything they ever felt for each other, he can feel the pain, the comfort, the joy, the guilt. He can taste the love, her love and also her anger -at him, at their incompatible future.

“Aren’t you worried you’ll never find a meant to be?” Ricky says suddenly and his eyes glances at his hand on her thigh, like he only just realized where it was the whole time but he doesn’t stop, just keeps keeping up with the soft tapping, following the melody inside his brain. His lower lip trembles.
“I’ll live” Gina shrugs but, like always, the sparkle in Ricky’s eyes makes her want to tell him everything -that she isn’t worried about never finding a meant to be because she already worries too much she might have found one who isn’t meant to her, “I don’t think meant to be are for me anyway”
Ricky’s tapping freezes on her thigh and Gina’s breath catches in her throat as he slowly looks up right back at her with wide eyes and mouth slightly open.
It tickles everywhere.

One day, Ricky would tell her.
Tell her everything he always wanted to say but never had. Tell her she had been it for him since the day he felt her lips on his cheek in his car after Homecoming. Tell her how it broke his heart when he had to watch her leave once, then twice. One day, he would tell her how lost he had felt without her in his life, how just looking at her from afar wasn’t enough, how just a smile from her would turn his world upside down. He would tell her how he had felt his heart being ripped off his chest when he realized he had maybe lost her forever. How he had lost his breath after their first kiss.

But Ricky’s face lit up when he finally unpacked the cute little pink cupcake, like somehow it was the entire moon she was offering him and she felt her breath catch.
