Bookmarker's Notes
I'm already filing this one away as "getting mixed up with canon." The characters are vivid, the action is compelling, I'm going to slowly suffocate in the ice of suspense.
Things to remember:
The (current?) ending with Harry pinning Marcone and immediately slipping into a full PTSD attack.
Ivy hugs John (!!) who is as fragile about that as expected
Harry is trying to extricate himself from Winter when he can believe that's possible
Thomas scene content warning
Kincaid brief moment funny and flirty lmao I love him
Sanya is perfect
Who has Lasciel?? Hendricks???? JOHN???
All the entanglements mid-fight and the back and forth with orders
The way Harry internalizes magic, Mab, Marcone, fealty, just all so interesting. -

Bookmarker's Notes
Beautiful lines in here that I want to be able to come back to.
The parallel repetition of "He grunted." is so elegant and really sounds like Butcher, too, in its humor. The lines with Hendricks asking Dresden if he'd hold anyone else to the same standard. The examples Hendricks used - somehow the fact that Hendricks threw Marcone in there really gets to me. It's like he's hit upon something with the way Harry sees Marcone, that he'd be included before "the strongest person" Harry knows. I know it's most plainly believable as "Hendricks is connected to Dresden through Marcone" but this little moment stood out with subtext.
And it's a gorgeous way to couch that all-important reminder for when mental health struggles are kicking up shame in us.And the ending is cute. Hendricks actually asking for a reasonable bit of advice in this not-at-all-business call.
Hendricks and Harry semi-friend moments are always treasures.

Summary
In an attempt to reclaim both his sexuality and his chains in the wake of the Sisyphus incident, Thanatos and Zagreus have been experimenting with bondage. They've got a communication plan and they've done wonderful, affirming scenes before. This time, they think they're finally ready.
These chains don't bite.
Until they do.

remembered this story from far back and had to make sure it's a bookmark. It's a powerful view of dissociation and flashbacks. It brings me to stillness. I think of it every now and then.

The answer to the question 'how did a nice young man like Nathan Hendricks wind up in a corporate crime syndicate like this?,' and a couple others. References but probably doesn't really spoil Even Hand.

why is it SO satisfying to read Hendricks backstory and Hendricks POV - oh it's because I keep running into stories written so EXCELLENTLY in that perspective.

Immediate bookmark. Daredevil's version of the Spider-Man 2 train scene, my literal favorite moment in all superhero fiction?
Yessssss.
The deliberate confusion of his appearance to the media is so sweet.
I melted and died at the Jack Murdock references, though. Aughhhh perfect. That love. Community and hope and good people.
