It felt like his face would crack under the force of it. It felt like he’d earned this. Because he had, he’d fought for it, for so long. Had thought the moment the world found out about his and Ilya’s private life, over a year ago now, that he would never have this again, had shrunk away in misery and shame from all of it. Never again. He never wanted to go back.
