“Calm down, Daniel. You're overreacting,” Vlad cooes, watching the fetus' rapid development with hungry eyes. White hair begins to feather its head, the exact same shade as Phantom’s. “A female,” the elder halfa announces, squinting at the readouts. “Congratulations. It’s a girl.”
“Please,” Danny whimpers, eyes fixed on the little girl (his little girl, his little girl) curled in the vat of ectoplasm. A cry slips from his throat when she jerks, convulsions rippling across her tiny form. “No!” he cries, seeming to have forgotten Vlad’s presence as he jerks on the cuffs. “No, baby please, baby please-”
“Adjusting the output,” Vlad mutters, fiddling with the switches. “This is the final stage, it’s going to work, it’s working-”

He was three steps away when he heard it.
"—and how is that even POSSIBLE?" He recognized the voice immediately. Tim. And he sounded... not good.
Jason should have left. Should have just aborted the mission and come back another time when Tim wasn't around. That was the smart play. The tactical play. But curiosity was a bitch, and Jason found himself moving toward the sound instead of away from it. He peered around the doorframe and saw Tim in his office, pacing like a caged animal with at least five empty coffee cups scattered across his desk. The kid looked like he hadn't slept in a week. Maybe longer.
