Jayce is a morning person. Viktor and Mel try to fix that.
“Hey!” The sound rings up from the kitchen. Loud. Enthusiastic. Jayce. “You two still up to go to the park today? I’m packing a basket, but might need to run to the store for more cheese!”
It is not an unpleasant way to start the day, necessarily. At least, it wouldn’t be, if it occurred at a reasonable hour.
“Your boyfriend is awake,” Viktor notifies Mel, cracking an eye open.
She burrows into Viktor’s chest and groans, “Before 9AM, he is your boyfriend.”

Summary
The Glorious Evolution is, as its namesake implies, glorious indeed. Only Jayce— Viktor's beautiful, clever partner, Jayce— has managed to escape the loving embrace of Viktor's power, and only because Viktor has allowed it.
It has been endearing to watch Jayce struggle against the slow, inevitable creep of the evolution, but ultimately, his resistance is the cause of great suffering. Not on Viktor's part— no, Viktor has never felt more content— but on Jayce's.
Viktor does not want Jayce to suffer. Viktor only wants Jayce to be happy.

Here is yet another proof of his immense care, of his gentle and boundless wisdom: the Herald announces he will see to his dear friend alone. They needn't worry. Soon he will be reborn. But for the time being, ah— how about we ensure his comfort, hmm? Some space will do just fine. Some time resting under the sun.
The Herald touches his friend's arm, softly, and takes him by the hand. He scatters the onlooking crowd without raising his voice, makes them float away like so many blown strings of a dandelion sprout.
See? There is nothing to fear, he tells Jayce. You are among friends. You are safe. You are all mine.

Summary
Sleeping with your professor's research assistant for a passing grade is one thing– there’s an exchange there, albeit not a very ethical one, but a mutually beneficial agreement nonetheless.
The issue is that Jayce doesn’t need to get on his knees for a good grade, so when he starts hanging around Viktor’s office hours, and finds himself kneeling on thin, scratchy carpet more often than not, it’s a little hard to explain what exactly his motivation for this affair is.
Or; Jayce starts sleeping with his professor’s research assistant, Viktor; and he might be in love with him.
