“I think I dropped my scroll on the field!” Skara sets her bag down on the bench, anxiety and defeat weighing on her shoulders. “My dad just bought that for me and now it’s gonna be fried in the rain. He’s gonna ki-” She pauses, glances quickly at Hunter with an apologetic grimace. “He’s gonna be so upset with me.” She amends.
“Oh, that’s fine. I’ll go get it for you.” Hunter scowls at his scroll. Really, these typos are starting to get on his nerves. He’ll demand another typing lesson when he gets back to the house.
He jabs at the power button—the only button he can really trust the consistency of—and marches toward the door.
“Wait, Hunter, what-?”
And he walks right out into the boiling rain.

“Do identical twins always present the same? Since our DNA is almost exactly the same?” He doesn’t want to tell Stanley what he’s afraid of. Stanford Pines, always the freak, might not turn out like his brother.
“That’s an excellent question!” The woman smiles and gestures to the DNA string diagram on display. “In many cases, identical twins will have the same secondary gender presentation. However, identical twins don’t share 100% of their DNA so there is always a chance for twins to present differently.”
“Don’t worry, Ford.” He elbows the other, always ready to reassure his brother. “No matter what, we’ll always be together! Like I told ya, pack’a two!”
Everyone had high expectations of Stanford Pines. He would be their ticket out of poverty, their golden child. The pressure of being perfect formed him in ways good and bad. Stanley was never expected to be anything. And so he lost himself to a world that never wanted him.

Shermie definitely didn’t sniffle because he was crying. He only sniffled a little because it was cold and he was wet from the walk in the rain, not because he was sad and scared and alone. Shermie didn’t cry. He steadied his voice to hide the shake in it and said “Um, Ma’s ok. She gave me your number.”
“Oh.” The voice paused. “What’s- uh, what’s up?”
“Um.” Shermie gulped. “I need- some help.”
“What is it?”
“Pa.” He took a deep breath. “Pa kicked me out.”
The voice didn’t speak for a minute. When it did again, it shouted “What the fuck?”

Shermie Pines is, practically, an only child. Yes, he has an older brother, but it's not like Stanford is ever around. He's lonely, and his parents are always fighting, and he doesn't really fit in. Things suck. And that's not even mentioning the worst part. There's an unspoken rule in his house. One that's been around since forever.
Don't talk about the other one.
He doesn't exactly know who that is, but he's a curious kid, and what else do curious kids do other than stick their noses where they don't belong? All Shermie wants to know is who Stan Pines is. If only that didn't make things worse. But then they get better? He doesn't know. Life is weird like that.

Soos looked up from organizing his (new!) toolbox. He shrugged, “My Abuelita knows where I am.”
Stan leaned hard against the gift shop counter as he counted that day’s earnings. He sighed, “Nah, I meant, like, your dad or mom. They won’t be callin’ the cops or something?”
A strangled expression crossed Soos’ face, which is weird because so far, the past few weeks of knowing him, he had been a complete ray of sunshine. He looked down and picked up a screw, fiddling with it idly, “I, um, don’t have a dad, Mr. Pines.”

Husk pinched the bridge of his nose, heaving a heavy sigh. How the fuck did he end up in situations like this? When he looked back at the deer, he found his ears were all but plastered to the top of his head and sweat was beginning to bead at his brow. “Do you know what you took?” he finally asked.
“I didn’t take anything.”
Which, reading between the lines, meant… “Succubus? Incubus?”
“…no and no. I…” His nose scrunched up. “…may have ingested something I shouldn’t have.”
“Such as?”
“A spider demon. There was a dark, viscous liquid coming from its mouth. I thought it was blood. Why let a perfectly fresh corpse go to waste?”
“So you licked it?”
He somehow managed to scowl around his ever present smile. “I didn’t lick it! I licked my finger.”
