“I’m home,” Cherry called as he walked through the door, followed by Langa.
“Welcome back,” Joe answered automatically.
“Langa!” Reki said excitedly, if a smidge confused. “And…Cherry?” He frowned a little. “What are you doing here?”
“I live here,” Cherry said, just enough disdain to make it clear he found Reki’s question totally stupid.
“But—” Reki glanced at Joe, now totally puzzled. “Doesn’t Joe live here?”
“I do,” Joe confirmed with a nod.
“So you both live here..?” Reki’s brow furrowed. “I thought you hated each other?”
“We do,” Joe and Cherry said together.
“You hate each other but you live together?” Langa asked with a cute frown.
“Yes. To both,” Joe clarified, not actually clarifying at all. “We’re married.”

Joe heard the front door chime to Sia la luce and tried to control his smile as he toweled off his hands and made his way to the front. It wouldn’t do to actually look a bit happy to see Cherry; no way, that would upset the routine.
“I didn’t realize it was that late, already wine-mooching time—” Joe teased as he came around the corner, brought up short.
Cherry stood ramrod straight, tension radiating off of him. Golden eyes too wide, and ghastly pale (even for him).
“Kaoru?” Joe asked carefully, already moving around the counter. “Are you okay? What’s wrong?”
Cherry lifted his arm, holding a…weird-ass basket? A big one? Were they going on a picnic? No, that wasn’t really a basket it was—well, not that Joe was particularly familiar with these things but once he saw it, he couldn’t see it as anything else.
But a bassinet.
“Kojiro,” Cherry said, voice painfully tight. “What is this?”
