Summary
When Gangle placed her suggestion in the box, a part of her did so knowing it would never get picked. So when Caine needs a quick, easy adventure to tide everyone over, it's her high school prom idea that's plucked out of the suggestion box. While she'd often dreamed of a chance to overwrite the memory of her own prom, she still can't quite escape the chokehold it has on her.
But she's not the only one who's trying to keep themself from looking back. Skipping out on adventures is nothing new to them, but this one in particular hits home for Zooble in a way they'd rather not think too hard about. But to give Gangle the night she's dreamed of—that she deserves—Zooble has to decide if they can set their own feelings aside for one night, for her.
Because obviously just talking to her about it would be too easy.

Dear Jax,
Why do I begin all these letters with "dear Jax?" You weren't dear to me at all! You were an insufferable, insensitive, unlikeable, violent jackass who had absolutely no interest in changing. But I guess part of me assumed you'd give it up some day and get better. I don't know why, but the idea of you not getting a happy ending never felt real until you were already gone.

Or, Jax's abstraction hits Zooble a lot harder than they were expecting. They don't know how to explain this, not even to themself. At Kinger's suggestion, they attempt to anyway--through letters. They think it's stupid and pointless, but something makes them keep writing anyway.

"I always figured you'd go out in some kind of… insane fiery explosion, taking all of us with you out of spite." Zooble carefully steps to the side and leans against the lamppost. He steals a quick glance at them before his eyes drop back down to the piano. "Instead, you were just here one second and… gone, the next."
The look on Jax's face is impossible to decipher, even more so than usual. "Guess you didn't know me as well as you thought."
"I never knew you at all. You never let me."
Or: Post-finale, Zooble steps into Jax's mind for closure and a long-overdue conversation.
