It had been a quiet week. Even though ghosts could not feel the temperature of anything that was not supernatural in nature, business still reliably slowed down every summer - and the current heatwave was, of course, no exception.
So Charles and Edwin had the place all to themselves. They'd closed early and sent the girls home, who'd been drooping on the small office sofa like a pair of flowers that had wilted in the heat.
But the two boys weren't affected by the weather like that. They just had the rest of the day off to enjoy themselves.
When the boys close shop early, Charles takes care of Edwin, and then himself.

Summary
Wolves didn’t often marry out of their clans, but when they did, there was a marked preference for unions of breath rather than blood. Edwin’s marriage, long-negotiated, was mainly a trading agreement. Lumber, food, the exchange of artisans for builders, safe passage for wolves and cats through the territories of each.

“It certainly would mean a great deal to me if you were to take Charles in.”
Thomas heaves a sigh and waves his hand in the air dismissively. “Yeah, sure. Fine. Whatever. But if you two are some sort of deranged serial-killing duo, at least promise to make the crime scene photos cinematic, m’kay? I want the Netflix true crime doc about us to stay in the Top 10 for weeks.”
Edwin’s answering look is wry, but not displeased. In fact, it's unfortunately rather hot. “Is that a yes?”
“Yes,” Thomas agrees before he can think better of it.
“Good,” Edwin declares, standing abruptly. “Because he’s waiting outside.”
