Frigid winds whipped across Steve’s face, the tiny amber stone feeling like a thousand-pound weight in his fist. He turned and locked his steely gaze on the cloaked figure behind him.
“Captain Rogers, you’ve come here with the Soul Stone,” the Red Skull said, floating closer.
“I have,” Steve said, narrowing his eyes on the former Hydra leader.
The Stonekeeper let out a low hum, his blank expression unchanging as he gestured to the edge of the cliff. “Then return the stone to its rightful place, and be on your way.”
Steve’s jaw tensed, muscles working through clenched teeth, “I want to make a deal.”

It isn’t that Steve is having trouble adapting to the new century. He likes to think he’s doing alright. He figured out a lot of it on his own, and he has Nat to help him on the finer points.
What he misses, more than anything, is his people. Bucky and Peggy. The loves of his life. They’d like this century. Find all sorts of ways to get themselves into trouble.
Especially since he knows, without a doubt, that Natasha would love to tutor either of them in the finer points of modern life. He’s got faith he’ll get to introduce her to Bucky some day. But it is a shame she’ll never get to meet the Peggy he knew. They’d get on like a house on fire.
And would be sexy as hell playing with each other.
He’s had more than one dream about it.
How they’d preen and pet and play off one another. Just the thought turns him on. And he knows Nat feels the same from the way she brings Peggy up in bed.

Natasha liked having a friend she could count on to pick her up from the airport. It used to be that the only person she could rely on for that sort of thing was Clint. Now she had Steve. And being picked up by Steve was a lot more interesting. He was just so much more fun to tease. And he absolutely loved when Nat took control and did something playful and just a little risky.
Of course, he also liked tormenting her until she was forced to do something drastic. Then he would be the one to take the lead on the something risky.
So really, she was winning either way.

It isn’t that Steve dislikes this new century. It is just that he is surrounded by brats and he isn’t allowed to do anything about it. Clint with his ‘gentle support’ that makes Steve feel like he’s being wrapped in cotton wool. Rhodey, with his impertinent questions. Tony, who somehow knows exactly how to press every one of Steve’s buttons.
And Natasha. Natasha with her lush mouth and playful eyes. Who will not stop teasing him since she’d discovered he was willing to share his bed. He swears, she’s trying to get him to pass out by causing all the blood to rush away from his brain.
They haven’t had anything like a talk. Not beyond Natasha making it clear she’s only looking for a physical relationship. That’s fine by Steve. He’s already in one complicated relationship. He doesn’t need another.
He probably shouldn’t take her back to his room tonight though. Not if he doesn’t want to scare her off. He’s in one of his moods. The ones that had lead to Peggy tying him to the bed frame or Bucky antagonizing him until he shoved him up against a wall. Natasha hasn’t seen that side of him yet and he’s not entirely sure how to introduce her to it.

It had been a rough two months. Two years really, but especially the last two months. He’d gone from having the two most amazing people in the world in his bed. A whole future ahead of them. One full of love and laughter, and sex. To alone. Stuck in a new century. One of his loves, dead. The other grown old without them.
That would have been enough. But then some asshole had dropped three Helicarriers from the sky, uncovered a multinational conspiracy and changed everything.
Bucky was alive. Taken. Tortured for decades. Forced to do horrible things. But crucially, alive, and no longer under Hydra control.
What he wasn’t was here. Weeks since he’d dragged Steve out of the Potomac, and he was no where to be found.
Steve was tired. He was irritated. He was lonely. And yeah, he was horny.
None of that look like it was going to change any time soon. All he wanted to do was sit on his couch and try to forget all the things he needed to do the next day. Maybe fall asleep there rather than bother moving to his too empty bed.
Unfortunately, someone was knocking urgently on his door. So, it didn’t look like he was going to be granted even that small mercy.

Being an Avenger meant a lot of paperwork, and a lot of international travel. Steve was doing one, Natasha was doing the other. Which meant Steve was… tense… in a way he hadn’t been in the last few months. He'd gotten used to having Natasha around to help him take care of physical needs.
He was pretty sure Nat missed it the same way he did. At least based on the breathy teasing voice on the other end of the call. Curious little minx wanted to play games. Steve was always happy to play along.

As far as Steve could tell, this twenty-first century consisted largely of flying around the world, putting out fires that other people should have snuffed out before they grew out of control, a lot of standing around feeling like he could be replaced by a cardboard cut out without anyone noticing, more getting shot at by Nazis than he would have expected given that people kept telling him they had won the war….
And a reasonable amount of mind-blowing sex with Natasha. Who was a good friend, amazing in bed, and more than fun to spend time with since they'd figured out how to deal with the tension between them. Primarily that mind-blowing sex. Which was good, and getting better. Especially since Nat had realized he didn't always want to be the one bossing her around. He wanted to give up control.
And apparently, Natasha wanted to take it.
Steve loves this new century.
