“Here,” Jason says, passing the tray over to Damian. “Go bring Dick this.”
Damian redirects his scowl, but the furrow in his brow looks more curious than angry now. “What is it?”
“Papanasi,” he answers. “It’s, uh. It’s something his family used to make.”
Damian accepts the tray, holding it as carefully as he would delicate electronics. “And this will…make him happy?”
He doesn’t laugh at him. “Nah, kid,” he says wearily. “He’s not going to be happy until he knows his family is safe. But it’ll help.”
The smaller boy clambers down from the stool, taking care not to drop the dessert as he does. He hesitates on his way out of the kitchen. “I…am looking forward to Drake’s safe return,” he says.
Jason snorts. “For Grayson’s sake, yeah, yeah.”
“Yes,” he says, shifting on his feet. “For Grayson’s sake.” Another beat, and finally he pads out of the room, very seriously balancing the tray that looks ridiculously large in his small arms.

He has never argued with a punishment, not since he was a toddler, if then. Surely she’ll listen, surely she’ll see this is too harsh, that he wouldn’t be disrespecting her like this if he was simply sulking over not getting his way. He needs that food, needs to be able to eat enough if he wants to be Robin.
He’s been hungry before, but back then, it never mattered if he was a little weak or dizzy. It never risked his life or the life of his partner when he was a kid.
She turns, sighing softly and pursing her lips. She reaches out to pat his cheek, and for a moment his heart soars hopefully, and he barely restrains himself from leaning into the rare bit of contact and soaking up his mother’s touch. “Oh, Timothy,” she tuts. “This is for the best. And honestly, I think it’s wise for you to cut down a bit on the snacks. I’d hate to have to listen to anyone tittering at the next gala that you’re getting chubby.”
And without another backwards glance, she turns and heads upstairs, leaving Tim alone and frozen at the bottom of the steps.

Tim nods. “We have a competition. See who’s better: The Bats or The Supers.”
Clark’s already shaking his head. “Now, hang on, this is getting a little out of hand. I don’t think pitting each other against one another is the solution -”
“What sort of competition?” Bruce cuts him off.

Clark and Bruce are getting married next week. They’re also going on their honeymoon straight after. This, understandably, has sent all of their children into crisis. Clark isn’t sure how that spirals into all of them playing an overly elaborate game of hide and seek to prove who could get to Clark and Bruce first in the case of an emergency, but if that’s what it takes to reassure them, then who is he to object?

Five years ago, this wouldn’t have been a problem. But somewhere in the intermediary years they’ve grown something of a … rapport. Kal’s gotten less flighty, Batman’s critiques have become an expected and endearing quirk, and their post-battle arguments have ebbed from claws and teeth into something more like a post-battle eyeroll and knowing grin. Some would call this growth - a foray into friendship the likes of which Bruce Wayne has scarcely known - but, 235 days, 3 hours, and 22 minutes since their last blowout argument and Bruce is a veritable fish out of water. Your regular boat unmoored. He needs a fix. And so, operation Red Hot is born.
