Robby relaxes, and he carries on stirring
Jack interrupts the quiet once more with the other question that's been on the tip of his tongue.
"Why haven't you left?"
Robby freezes. He doesn't turn around, doesn't look at Jack, like it's easier to be honest this way.
"Because I think if I go, I won't come back."

Dennis nodded.

Jack looks at him. “What’d you get me, tickets to someplace? A love letter?” He leans over to kiss Robby’s cheek in advance for whatever it is. Robby doesn’t laugh, just stands there, rigid. Jack’s fingers close around what feels like a stack of printed photos.
He looks down as he pulls them out of the envelope, and immediately, Jack’s vision swims.
