Mike hoped it didn't sound as pathetic to them as it did to him.
Will grinned at him. "For sure. I can finally do something about that hair of yours."
Despite himself, Mike laughed out loud, cherishing the taunting.
It was going to be fine. If he could have this Will by his side again, he could take other men having their way with him a thin wall away from Mike. Couldn't he?
Or: Will gives Mike a little bit of tough love, encouraging him to stop wasting his life. Mike moves in with Will and Dustin in New York only to realize that Will has a very - very - active sex life. Mike extends his fingers. They fall between Will's brows, and when Will doesn't flinch away, doesn't say stop or don't, Mike slowly drags a yellow line down Will's hooked nose, drops it in the dip of his cupid's bow—trails lower, because he's already gone this far, he might as well, he's only been dreaming about this for years and years and so many goddamn years, why shouldn't he press the last of the paint onto Will's slightly-parted mouth? Color his lower lip in daffodil? Feel the heat of his breath ghost across the pad of his thumb as he murmurs, "Yellow, obviously," and daringly asks, "Remember mine?"

Or: after receiving a letter prompting Mike to visit Will at college, Mike and Will reconnect and the rest, they say, is history. But they have enough of that already--why not add a bit more?

Summary
Love was weird like that. Mike never expected it to be so consuming and irrational. Sometimes painful, but in the best way possible, like pain was there to remind him that love had to be shared.
It felt less painful when it had a home, someone it belonged to. Someone who could hold it.
He wanted that someone to be Will.
or,
Mike comes to the inevitable realization that he’s gay, specifically gay for his best friend. However, his timing couldn’t be more awful, because when Will comes back from New York, he doesn’t come back alone. He brings his boyfriend, Carlton, who happens to be the worst guy alive.
Mike’s not giving up. Far from it, actually, he’s just getting started, consequences be damned.

Richie wanted him to come back with some kind of hit, like he always would. Richie would say something stupid and Eddie would hit back with something mean. But neither of them meant it, it was just the way they talked. Instead he just said, "Please don't call me that," And it was different from every other time he'd said it, it wasn't teasingly, it wasn't lighthearted, it was just 'fuck you'.
