Summary
Nightwing is declared dead after a mission gone wrong. At least, that's what the Batfamily buries.
In reality, Dick Grayson wakes up in chains, trapped with a man who calls his torture 'art'. Starved, stretched, drugged, and reshaped into something inhuman, Dick fights to say alive while everyone he loves mourns him.
Wally drowns in grief, suddenly raising a child Dick never knew he had. Tim breaks under guilt, Jason spirals. Damian lashes out. Bruce holds a funeral for his eldest son.
For too long, everyone believes that Dick is gone. Until through some miracle Wally's phone rings from a number he doesn't know, and on the other end is a voice that should be dead. Now the family must race to save the man they already buried, before the artist finishes his masterpiece.

At five, he survived by rummaging through trash cans in Crime Alley in search of food.
At six, Deathstroke found him and took him in as his protégé.
By the time he was seven, he already knew how to use at least five different types of weapons.
When he turned eight, he killed his first victim. He cried that night.
By the age of nine, during a mission, Batman found him and took him under his wing.
As soon as he stepped into the mansion, he knew there was no place for him there.
Later, he discovered why: he was in the shadow of a ghost, Jason Todd, one of Bruce's stray dogs.Dick has never had a home, not since the circus left, not since his parents died. But now, with Bruce dead and his “big brother,” whom he believed hated him, as his new guardian, he would definitely return to the streets.
__________________________Or Where a very angry Dick and former apprentice of Slade learns to be a child while Damian learns to be a father and deal with the burden of being Batman.

It was all Dick's fault. His fault. Not Jason's. Not Bruce's. His. He was too weak and too distracted and too stupid. Careless. All he wanted was to meet Jason's mother alone, to judge her character. He didn't expect this to happen.
Lying against the cold floor of the warehouse he thought he didn't deserve to be Nightwing. This was not what uncle Clark’s hero was. He certainly was no failure.

Summary
An old tradition. A horrible tradition, but traditions are traditions. No one even remembers the last time it was invoked in Gotham. Probably some time in the 1800's. No one actually did it anymore, not even the city's elite who breathed tradition like air, wore it draped over them like their silken finery.
Dick had sat numb and uncomprehending when, already reeling from Bruce's sudden and wholly unexpected death, his attorney read that line in the will with a grim voice. He couldn't move. Couldn't breathe. Blood was rushing in his ears, and he was only distantly aware as Jason started raging, swearing. Tim had grabbed his hand. Damian balled his fists and knocked an antique vase from a side table in mute fury.
Because buried in the section of the will covering death and burial wishes sat a quiet death sentence for Dick.

Dick never thought it was important to mention he was born an Atlantean. His first memories were in a tank at Haley’s circus, and he was so young when he was cursed human that’s he’s spent more time with legs than without. It’s not like he was ever a real mer anyway…
When a routine magical detox after a mission turns out to be stronger than the curse he bears, he wishes he’d told at least someone earlier, he would’ve liked to visit Atlantis under less pressuring circumstances.
OR
Dick is exposed as a merman/atlantean, gets a tour of Atlantis, and has to decide whether he’d like to face the culture and people he was stolen from, or ignore it all and return to his family on land.
