Summary
"Do you know how long it's been since I heard from Alexei?" Ilya asks, as Shane walks into the kitchen and opens the fridge.
"Huh?"
Ilya shakes his phone at Shane. "I was thinking it's been a while since I heard from him, so I was looking through my call log and I can't find anything in the past few months." Shane looks at him with a mix of confusion and horror. He puts his hands up in mock defense. "Don't worry, don't worry. I'm not going to call him, but the longer he goes silent the worse it usually is when he pops back up."
"Ilya." Shane abandons his search for food to stand directly in front of him. "You haven't talked to Alexei in literal decades."
Ilya is diagnosed with dementia and opts for medical assistance in dying rather than letting the disease take over. He and Shane say goodbye.
