Severus knew that Lucius was just deluding himself. Voldemort was never going to take on a poverty-stricken half-blood just because he had some talent for Potions.
And, more to the point, Severus simply had no inclination to join, regardless of Lucius’ preposterous claim that Voldemort cared less about blood purity than was widely believed.

They move in next door and try to play a nice group of muggle roommates. Tensions rise; will they fight to the death, or will past hatred turn into something else? I don't know yet, so we'll see where it goes!
