Summary
In 1988, Mumbo goes missing. In 1989, Grian becomes a fire lookout in the national forest he was last seen in. It's a desperate, last ditch attempt to save the person who means the most to him: his best friend. If nobody else can find Mumbo, then surely Grian can.
In 1979, Scar suffers an accident that changes the course of his life. In 1981, he starts an off-beat job in the middle of nowhere to try and begin anew. He works as a fire lookout in Shoshone National Forest for 8 years before meeting Grian--and maybe, just maybe, the two of them were somehow meant to cross paths.
This series centers around the main fic, The Incandescence of a Dying Light. There will not be a sequel to the fic, but I have a whole host of complimentary material set inside the AU. This AU will deal with strong themes of grief and mental health. It will also have a lot of science and extremely specific research!
Serotiny is a botanical term describing the actions a plant might take--such as going to seed--after a trigger factor is met. It's most commonly used to describe pyriscent plants, whose seeds only germinate after experiencing wildfire.
It's a period of growth after disaster.

Summary
It's 1988. Grian and Mumbo are roommates living in the US. Mumbo leaves on a solo camping trip at Grian's suggestion to get away from his job for a while. But when he fails to check in at the end of his trip, Grian is forced to report him as a missing person. And now the clock is ticking.
It's 1989. Grian takes a job in Shoshone National Forest as a fire lookout, prepared to spend the summer alone in the wilderness. But his primary goal isn't finding forest fires: it's finding Mumbo, who went missing in this location a year ago, alive and well. He expects to be alone. What Grian doesn't expect is having the company of the other nearby lookout, a man named Scar. Their relationship grows through their conversations held via two-way radio, as Grian begins to let Scar into the truth about why he's really here and mystery he's unraveling.
