Summary
Kazuha is not a fighter.
It sounds like a lie. The calluses on his hands tell stories of training from a miserably early age. The fire in his eyes and his soul say that he’ll fight if he has to, and he has to. The Vision he carries with him (proudly, because the Shogun cannot take his pride from him even if she takes his soul, his heart, his love) tells tales of determination that reaches Celestia itself.
But he is not a fighter, because he chooses not to be.
It is as simple as that.

Soda's not really sure who, exactly, he is.
If you were to ask Ponyboy or Darry, they'd call him their glue, the middle brother that keeps all of them in place and not running off to the cliffs and the hills after their parents died. But if you asked them before the car crash, they would say something like "Our brother," like that explained everything, and it kind of did.
Family is everything. When nothing is true and everything is lit in flames, family is there. Soda clings to that belief through his grief for his parents, because he won't let Darry and Ponyboy drift away from Soda or each other. He's already lost his parents. He can't lose his brothers, too.

Once, there was a man named Orpheus who so loved his wife, that when she died, he journeyed to the underworld to bring her back to life.
And Inej does not know why she keeps hearing it, or why it keeps coming to her in dreams, the story echoing loudly in her heartbeat. It is as if the universe is saying, This is important. Listen.
And so she does.
Or: Kaz and Inej before, during, and post Six of Crows, their lives running parallel to the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice.

“What’s your name?” He asked her.
“I’m Eurydice. Do you always flirt with your customers on the clock?” she replied, letting some amusement into the question.
“Only sometimes,” he admitted, averting his eyes to the floor as a shy smile flickered across his face.
“That doesn’t feel very professional,” she teased, raising her eyebrows.
“I’m not a professional. I’m just a busboy,” he replied with a chuckle.
“How am I supposed to come home with you if you’re working?” she asked, smirking.
Orpheus’s head snapped up suddenly, eyes wide, like he clearly didn’t think she would even consider his offer. Under other circumstances she probably wouldn’t have, but he didn’t need to know that. He didn’t need to know that this would be his final night alive.
“Wait for me?” he asked, breathlessly, “After my shift? Meet me outside, and I’ll find you behind the saloon?”

Eurydice was a hungry young vampire. Orpheus was a poor boy working at a dead end saloon. Eurydice thought Orpheus seemed like a pretty easy meal, but when things go awry, the two become an unlikely pair.

The autumn after Orpheus' trial, Persephone returns to the underworld. She and Hades are trying again, but Hades still has a town to run, and so an arrangement is made for her to have company. Each autumn Eurydice is brought up from the factory and reminded of her name and everything that comes with it, and for six months she's Persephone's lady in waiting until spring comes and she's sent back down to forget it all again.
