Which, despite wanting the job for years, Gavin hadn't been too happy about. He should have been excited, unaware of the full weight of the responsibility, but all it felt like at the time was dread. But he was tired of running, so he figured to stick his heels in the dirt and try to do the job with his head held high like he originally planned.
Now, sitting on the back of his own horse with a noose around his neck, he figures he just wasn't cut out for this life.
Or maybe he wasn't really cut out for life in the first place.
