Dean's alone in the woods hunting a Wendigo because Sam's stuck at the motel with a sprained ankle. It should be straightforward: track the thing, torch it, save whoever's still breathing. Easy.
Except nothing's ever easy.
Some guy with excellent trigger discipline and zero sense of self-preservation points a gun at Dean's back. Turns out Colter Shaw is a professional tracker. Someone hired him to find a missing girl, and he's not leaving.
Fine. Whatever. Dean can work with that.

As part of Chuck's "reliving of his greatest hits," Sam starts having his painful visions again. He doesn’t want to believe it, but the nightmares keep coming true and now, he's beginning to worry it’s not just visions. During their last hunt, Sam could have sworn that the machete he was reaching for threw itself. Dean didn’t seem to notice anything but later that night, Sam finds a small trail of blood coming from his nose.
He needs to tell Dean—he knows that. But Dean’s been struggling a lot between Chuck and losing... well, most everyone. He's just barely beginning to bounce back, and Sam was his only constant right now. He’ll just have to keep a handle on it until they can take care of Chuck.

Summary
Spots dance across Sam’s vision as this thing chokes the life out of him, and for a second, Sam freezes. For the first time in his life, he hesitates to yell for Dean. He keeps his mouth shut as his vision starts to tunnel, as the breath he should’ve used to scream is ripped from his lungs.
Sam is struggling after separating from Dean, and even more so after reuniting. But why does it matter? Dean's going to kill him anyways.

Lucifer was cradling his face and it sent fear through every part of his mind that was still aware. He was speaking gently, but his words were cruel.
“Why do you think Dean didn't kill you?”
“I don't know” Sam answered honestly, because what was the point of lying anymore? He had nothing left to give, he had nothing left to hide. It was cold. So, so cold. Sam hated the way that he pressed more into Lucifer's hands because somehow they were warm, warm despite the cold.

He watched — frozen — as the rat walked towards his cell. For the first time since this morning when he was walking down the stairs, Yuki finally met his eyes. Orange on gray. There was some sort of emotion in them, and he couldn’t tell what it was. But, his mind leapt to conclusions as he stared at him. He could only imagine what his own face looked like. Eyes wide and lips parted a little. Eyebrows furrowed a little bit. His hands dropped to his side as he watched the rat stalk towards him like he was the predator and Kyo was the prey.
After all this time, Kyo Sohma could never defeat the rat. Now, he has to be caged for the rest of eternity.

Summary
Sam chalked it up to habit. He figured, despite the friction between them, Dean was still bound by childhood instincts. Some things he could override, especially when he wanted Sam dead, but some things remained under all circumstances. So, when Sam woke up in the middle of the night and bolted for the toilet, it really shouldn’t have surprised him that after a mere ten seconds of retching, his hair was being pulled back.

This story is a reimagining of Naruto, inspired by canon but reshaped in character arcs and emotional weight. It pays particular attention to Sakura, whose abilities, growth, and inner life are developed far beyond what the original story allowed. I was always frustrated by the way Masashi Kishimoto wrote her, so in many ways this is the version of the story I wanted to read.
The tone is more mature than canon, with greater emphasis on war, sacrifice, grief, and survival. Though it remains rooted in the world of Naruto, it often moves away from its original brightness, leaning instead toward something more intimate, severe, and attentive to consequence. Be prepared for altered arcs, heavier emotional stakes, and a world that asks more of its characters.
