Summary
“Do you think it’s really possible?” Barty asks softly after a couple of minutes. He’s still staring down at the open journal, at Regulus’ poem, in his hands. “Getting over James Potter? Letting him go? Will we ever be able to do it?”
“I don’t know.” Regulus tells him because it’s the truth. He doesn't. “I’ve loved him for so long that I don’t know what it’s like not to love him.”
Regulus doesn’t know who he is without his love for James, but maybe letting James go doesn’t mean completely letting go of that love he has been safely keeping in his heart since he was eleven.
Maybe it just means that Regulus will have to reshape it, turn it into something less painful, something that will one day warm him like sunlight instead of burning him like Icarus.
(or, a universe, where Regulus and Barty are both in love with James, who is completely oblivious to it because he only has his eyes for Lily. Oh and Regulus might or might not write a poem about James and letting it all go.)

And just like that, Bruce knows that none of this is real, it can’t be.
The moment he admits it to himself, more blurry memories start to come back, flashing in his mind. He remembers going on a mission with the League to take care of some intergalactic terrorists, just like he remembers catching a glimpse of Black Mercy and hearing Clark yell at him to watch out before everything went dark.
“This isn’t real, none of it.” Bruce whispers, watching as Hal sighs out in defeat and glances over at the dining room where their family is happily chattering.
“No, but wouldn’t it be nice if it were?”
Bruce takes a step towards Hal and gently cups his jaw, pressing a small kiss against the corner of his mouth. “It would be but it’s not, and I can’t stay here.”
(or, a universe, where the influence of the Black Mercy and his perfect fantasy world is what finally gets Bruce to be honest about his feelings for Hal.)

“Oh, for fuck’s sake.” Jason grumbles under his breath and nudges Dick out of the way, looking directly in Tim’s eyes when he says with a soft voice, “The social media is flooded with the video of one of Bruce Wayne’s sons, the CEO of Wayne Enterprises, making out with a boy in his bedroom.”
“A way to go, Jason!” Dick hisses and jabs his elbow into Jason’s ribs. “Couldn’t you have been a bit more gentle with it?”
“I’m not you, I’m not going to sugarcoat the truth, Dickhead.” Jason smacks Dick in the back of his head and returns his attention back to Tim again who pales like he has seen a ghost. “Kid, you okay?”

Buck’s voice is a mere whisper when says, “Bobby’s death. It was my fault.”
“What–” Tommy seems to struggle with finding the right words. It takes him a few seconds but then he finally settles for saying, “Evan, what happened to Bobby was a tragedy. It wasn’t your fault.”
“Yes, it was. I changed the past when I saved you after the helicopter crash. I couldn’t live in the world without you so somehow I went back and saved you. You lived so someone had to die for nature to find balance. A life for a life.” Buck chokes out, barely seeing Tommy’s shocked and confused face through the tears that have welled up in his eyes. “It’s my fault that Bobby’s gone. I did this, Tommy. I killed him– I killed him, I killed him!”
(or: after Tommy dies in a helicopter crash, Buck somehow finds himself reliving the day and decides to fix it, not realising that an opportunity like that comes with a price.)

But he did; slowly, carefully, day by day before the realisation crashed over him like a wave and melted into his flesh and bones; before he looked at Barty across the stage one day five years ago as they were performing one of the songs they wrote together, because what have they ever done without each other, looked at his sparkly eyes and a heartwarming grin on his face as he read the signs fans have made, and he realised that oh, he loves him.
Even though the epiphany was sudden, unexpected, it wasn’t exactly surprising. After all, who else would Regulus ever fall in love with if not Barty? Who would Regulus ever love as much as he has loved Barty his entire life?
It’s just him and Barty, always have been, just the two of them until the end.
(or, a universe, where Regulus and Barty try to navigate through life together as members of a famous band, lose each other and then find their way back to each other again.)

James glances up at Regulus. He’s standing by James’ bedroom door with his keys and phone dangling from his grip. His cheeks are brushed pink, his curls amiss and the jut of his lip has been ruthlessly bruised. He looks perfectly wrecked by the hands of James Potter.
“Never,” James says back, biting down a smile.
Regulus stares at him, eyes narrowed and gleaming, before he turns and leaves through James’ bedroom door.
Not even a day later, James has Regulus cornered against his kitchen counter.
