Summary
On days when she wants to present more feminine, Shen Qingqiu goes to her jiejies at the Warm Red Pavilion. They love to dress her up, do her makeup, and smother her with sisterly affection. On one of these days, Yue Qingyuan accidentally-on-purpose finds their way to the red light district to retrieve Shen Qingqiu for “official sect business”— a thinly-veiled excuse to see Shen Qingqiu after the Qing Jing Peak Lord’s week-long absence. They find Shen Qingqiu in a room far away from where the brothel normally hosts their clientele. She’s wearing lavish, elegant silk robes, plum blossoms tucked into her hair as she lazes by the sun-filtered window. She is breathtaking. Yue Qingyuan forgets how to speak.

Summary
Mo Bei wakes up to the last demon of the pack he hadn’t managed to kill before passing out pawing at him, animalistically crouched over him and rifling through his pockets. Panic lances like a spear of ice through the haze of hot, sluggish pain and disorientation, and he wildly swipes at the demon with a burst of qi.
The demon yelps and throws himself out of the way, pouncing onto all fours before defensively throwing his arms up over his face, looking at Mo Bei with wide, frightened eyes. He would almost look like a victim, if it weren’t for his inhuman cat-slit eyes.
“Mercy!” the demon cries. “Mercy, mercy, Master Cultivator, please don’t kill me! I was just looking for medicine! For your wounds!”

Mo Bei, a righteous cultivator, is forced to rely upon a filthy, wicked demon.

Summary
Bursting onto a moonlit clearing, Yue Qingyuan sees it. Him. A tall, slender shape, his lower half a long and winding snake’s tail, the scales a dark and gleaming green and the body of it thick and solid. The upper half is human, all pale skin and long dark hair falling like ink. As Yue Qingyuan watches, the demon before him lets go of the mauled, bloody husk of an innocent mortal, raising his head to watch Yue Qingyuan from across the clearing. Bright red blood smeared all across his lower face, his eyes gleaming in the moonlight as he meets Yue Qingyuan’s gaze directly.
“Xiao-Jiu,” Yue Qingyuan croaks, frozen where he stands a dozen feet away.
Shen Jiu takes one look at Yue Qingyuan, and he is suddenly painfully aware of his white and black cultivator’s robes, his spiritual weapon sheathed at his side, the hilt in his hand.
“Don’t--” Yue Qingyuan starts, but Shen Jiu turns to slither away into the tree line before he can finish. The demon, fleeing the righteous cultivator.
Yue Qingyuan looks at the dead man that Shen Jiu leaves behind, and he lets him go.

Yue Qingyuan finally finds his childhood friend again.

“Zhang… You, did someone give you something to drink? To eat?”
“N-no, Xiao-Jiu, I haven’t eaten anything. Is that bad? Who are all of those people?” Yue Qingyuan looks at him helplessly, as if he is a lost and confused child, and Shen Qingqiu is the one who holds all of the answers he desperately needs. Again, he reaches out to Shen Qingqiu, more tentatively this time, lightly grasping his hand as if in search of comfort. A simple, childish gesture.
A lost and confused child. His stomach drops.
