Edwin was giving him a saddened look. He hated that. Edwin wasn't supposed to be sad because of him.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled, practically on instinct. Edwin just shook his head, taking a step closer. When he held out a hand, Charles was helpless to do anything but take it, sucking in a deep, unnecessary breath as Edwin intertwined their fingers.

Charles has been doing better with trusting that he and Edwin are safe since the events in Port Townsend, but it hasn't been easy for either of them. Edwin is trying his best to get Charles to relax and take some time to rest before he burns out yet again, but it's proving to be more of a challenge than either of them anticipated to heal from everything that happened.
