Summary

Set between Acts 2 and 3 of Season 1. Viktor is in a race against time. Mel decides to make an unexpected move. Jayce is torn between love and glory. Sky watches from afar, but she's not as far away as she thinks.
An AU with hints of the Frankenstein canon, where the lines between love, obsession, and despair are blurred.
“What… what am I?” The question took the man in front of him by surprise, who was still panting from the kiss.
“It's you,” Jayce whispered breathlessly. “It's still you. Viktor, my partner.” Something about that sentence didn't sound right to Viktor.

//The voice of the Arcane was something he’d begun to ascribe as his own, but it was so lacking in tactility that it just... fell. His own self seesawed between static and something like ocean waves touching a shore he’d long since forgotten. The Arcane, the Hexcore, whatever it could be called, had no sensation to it, like it were illusory entirely, the structure of the body it had constructed using Viktor as a blueprint a falsehood in and of itself. Perhaps his body was still there. Beneath it all. Perhaps the flaying of excavation would help him find that redness, that warmth that had turned unfeeling and tectonic, shifting inorganic material into the shape of “man”.//
The Herald Viktor remembers himself, realizing that Jayce’s actions in saving him—though they crossed a line—were out of love. Overwhelmed by regret and an awareness of the Hexcore’s manipulation, Viktor slowly starts to unravel himself from the Hexcore much like he’d done with Vander, relying on his memories of his time with Jayce; those in which he ‘felt’ the strongest.
But with every memory, his injuries from the bombing and his disabilities from life return, killing him. He can only hope Jayce makes it in time to say farewell.

But even as Viktor stammered his denial, his face went impossibly redder, crimson bleeding down his neck and disappearing beneath his collar.
What started as an accident led Jayce and Viktor to explore their exhibitionism everywhere and in every way they could.

Viktor is wearing dark lensed safety goggles, so he’s able to recognize the face immediately. The man shifts his giant hammer in his gloved hands and scans the lab with a serious expression. When his gaze lands on Viktor, his blue eyes go wide.

Summary
Viktor had barely settled back into his work when he heard the lab door slowly creak open.
He froze.
The campus should be closed at this time of night, especially on Progress Day. No one except for him, Jayce, Sky, and campus security even had access to enter this lab. He knew for certain Jayce and Sky were not returning until tomorrow morning. Sky left hours ago, mentioning she would be meeting with friends from the Undercity. Meanwhile, Jayce was representing Hextech at the afterparty Viktor declined to attend at the last minute, meeting foreign investors who were visiting for Progress Day.
Viktor whirled around, poised to face the intruder while armed with a flat-head screwdriver as his eyes scanned every corner of the lab in search of an unwelcome visitor.
But no one was there.

He never took Jayce home to Zaun, but Jayce was home in his own way. He was unforgiving and scalding to touch, violent and raging and dying to be held and kissed, to hold and kiss. He made fun of Viktor and pawed at his protruding spine and unceasingly begged Talk to me, talk to me. He let Viktor bite his earlobes and jaw, snuffle around his neck, command him around the kitchen or lab. Viktor shoved Jayce away at every turn, berated his every move, tore down every thought and theory, then languished in his arms like a martyr and asked for forgiveness. Nothing to forgive, Jayce always said. It was ironic. It used to break his heart.

And so Jayce Talis has crawled out of the depths of the Undercity and through the ruins of Piltover and found himself a second chance. There has only been one person on his mind. One that he wishes he could go back to, even if it changes nothing.
His entire train of thought derails as the stranger lifts his head. Short, sharp exhales make little clouds of vapor puff from his lips. His fingers, blackened with dirt and wrapped with shreds of his own clothing, curl into a fist around the haft of his weapon, leaning against it to support his own weight. It’s the eyes that drive the air from Viktor’s lungs.
He knows those eyes.
He knows that face.
“Jayce?”
At the sound of his own name, Jayce recoils. His teeth grit together as he grabs his head to turn himself away, breaking the hold of his stare. The intensity of it lingers though. Like the bright flash of a camera. The look on his face stains itself to the forefront of Viktor’s mind. He looked like… almost like an animal.

“That’s why I want you to meet Talis.”
