That day replays in Alex’s head a lot.
It’s hard for it not to when it goes through his head, the guilt seeping into his bones every second of every day. Most of these days, Alex lays immobilised in his bed for hours on end, imagining the myriad of ‘what ifs’. He can’t sleep without having to take a Xanax and if Zahra hides them, melatonin. Alex feels his body is nothing more than just 206 bones that haven’t been exercised in days. He tried to go out for jogs to take his mind off things, but everywhere he’d pass as he jog would be painful reminders that sting him all again.
The birds have stopped singing, or at least to Alex. He cannot feel the ground beneath his feet. The sun refuses to shine, or at least for Alex. The stars stopped glowing. Or at least to Alex. Because Henry was only days away from turning twenty-six.
