Summary
“Lex,” Clark yelps, “I mean, Luthor,” and then there’s a series of clatters and bangs that make Lex smirk. He clears his throat, deepens his voice, and puts on his best Superman. “What do you want, Luthor?”
“Oh, you know,” Lex says in his best airy supervillain falsetto. “It’s been so long. I was thinking we could talk.”
“We don’t talk,” Clark says flatly.
Lex sighs. “Fine,” he says. “Do you really want me to do this over the Daily Planet tip line?”
“Do what?”
“I’m staring at some photos of you down at the Metropark, Clark. What the hell are you doing?”
It’s clear from the pause that Clark isn’t sure how to answer that. Trying to come up with a suitable lie? “It … isn’t clear from the photos?” he asks, instead.
“You’re not gay, Clark!” Lex returns, annoyed.
“I’m not?” Clark sounds confused.
Or, Lex is turning forty-two, Clark is considering dating men, and as if all of that isn't enough, Superman decides he isn't fighting Lex anymore.

“You’re a strong woman, Clark,” Tess says. Her voice drops out of the gentle, flirtatious tone and into something lower and more serious. “I could tell, from how you carried me. That’s a good thing. But it isn’t always enough. And there’s always someone stronger. I think I can help you with that. I want to help you with that,” Tess corrects. “I’m on your side here, at the Planet. I’m not Lex. And I’m going to prove that, right now. By showing you how to fight.” She writes something down on a post-it note. “You don’t have to, of course. But think about it.”
She hands the post-it to Clark, then clearly and slowly turns her back on her to walk back to her desk and take a seat, seemingly completely absorbed in the papers in front of her.
Clark waits a second, looks around, and then tries to sort of slink out of the door.
Or, On Clark’s first day of work at the Daily Planet, she pisses off Lois, saves her new boss, gets a boxing lesson, and tries to flee a psychosexual power play.

“I like flannel,” Clark objects. She does. “Besides, it’s dry. And I really am sorry,” she admits. “I didn’t mean to knock you over.”
Lois sighs. “I suppose I don’t really have any other choice,” she says, pulling it on over her stained tee. “But this is it. The first, last and only time I’ll ever ask you to borrow a shirt, Smallville.”

The two of them stand shoulder to shoulder on the outskirts of the Kent farm, facing the horizon. It’s nearing dusk, but not quite there yet, and the sun illuminates their backs, casting long shadows over the corn fields.
It would be gauche of Lex to say it, but staring down the dusty one road path leading past the Kent farm that Clark had disappeared down, Lex has always thought so too. “Maybe he wants to come back his own man,” Lex offers instead.
“No,” Martha says, and something in her stands straight and certain. “He’s not coming back.”

At first, Johnny avoided the dojo. It was in Reseda, far from anywhere Johnny and his mom would be in Encino, far from any friends Johnny had, so it was easy. He had before, of course, gone months, almost years, without ever stepping foot in Reseda. So it was easy.
So it should be easy.
But these days, when he got too close, too near that indelible border separating the right side of the tracks from the wrong, he’d find his wheels pointing back there. It was like the place had a rope around Johnny, pulling him in, keeping him there.
It felt right, returning. Like it was calling him. Like something or someone wanted him to come back.
Because before the end of the summer in 1985, in the late August heat, Johnny had begun to dream.

Daniel lowers Johnny’s right hand into the bowl of warm water. He slowly massages Johnny’s fingers with his own hand. Red swirls up from Johnny’s hand and drifts through the bowl. Daniel watches it for a second before bringing Johnny’s hand back out. He pats it dry with the towel.
He puts Johnny’s hand down and takes out the first aid kit. The gauze wraps easily around Johnny’s hand. He tapes it off and holds it. It’s wet and a little cold. Johnny’s fingers are calloused and worn. Daniel rubs his fingers gently up and down the back of Johnny’s hand.
“You’re being nice,” Johnny tells him.
“Yeah, well,” Daniel says, and kisses him. “Don’t tell, I guess.”
Or, Johnny and Daniel are seeing each other now. What could possibly go wrong?

There are, of course, other items, tangible and intangible, that Dean Winchester has left behind, but these are the ten items on which his Heaven is built.
Here is the sum total of Dean Winchester’s Heaven: nine perfectly happy moments and one fantasy, spread across thirty-nine miserable years. The fantasy is something Naomi lets Castiel give Dean. She knows Castiel thinks it will let Dean escape. Castiel is wrong.
