Summary

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian get betrothed at the age of fourteen, and it is decided that Lan Wangji will spend a year’s time in Yunmeng to get to know his fiancé. It is a difficult time for Lan Wangji, who is used to the regimented lifestyle of the Cloud Recesses. He meets Wei Wuxian, who grabs him by the wrist to drag him to fun places, or to row boats down the lazy summer river, or to shoot kites. He grows closer to Jiang Wanyin and Jiang Yanli, and learns of their charms.Most of all, he learns about Wei Wuxian, who is thoughtful and bright and nothing like anyone else Lan Wangji has ever met before. He has a brilliant mind and a smile that rivals the sun, and Lan Wangji falls in love with him gradually, over bowls of too-spicy soup and lotus seeds.

"You challenged me, and you won," Loki says easily. It is one of Loki's greatest talents, that. The way he can get exactly what he means to, and then convince his opponent that he's the victor. Everyone always believes Loki so weak because of it, because he always gives the glory to another.

“I was drawn almost to weeping at the sight of them, they were so familiar,” Loki confides, later that night, and cherishes the way Thor’s eyes widen, his mouth falling open a little at the confession. As if he would swallow down every little truth that Loki deems him worthy of receiving.
