And now Derek looked suspicious. Which was just—rude. So rude. Stiles was the very picture of innocence! How could he possibly think Stiles was up to something?!
“Like what?” Derek asked.
“Well,” Stiles said, dragging the word out while stretching his arms forward on the table until he could close his hands around both of Derek’s. “My friend Mieka and I have been bonding over the past few months, and she just got a puppy, and she thought it might be fun for the two of us to bring our dogs to the dog park right outside town.”
Derek stared at him exceptionally hard. “You don’t have a dog.”
“I—why are you and dad the same?” Stiles let Derek’s hands go to throw both arms in the air. “Yes, Derek, I am aware I don’t have a dog!”
“So what exactly is this conversation leading to?” Derek asked, crossing his arms over his chest and looking thoroughly unimpressed.
Stiles licked his lips before pressing them together, trying to think of the best way to word this before blurting out, “In my defence, it was entirely dad’s idea! I wanted to steal a dog from the clinic!”

Look. So... okay... Stiles made a mistake, all right? He owns his mistakes. In his defense, the random dude at the gym was wearing the same shorts as Scott. This could have happened to anyone. It's not his fault, is all Stiles is saying! If you think about it, this is Scott's fault really. He's the one to blame, not Stiles.
(Or, Stiles whips a towel at the wrong ass at the gym. He's not complaining about the result. Much.)

“What's wrong.”
Despite being a question, Derek says it like a statement.
There’s this thin edge of long suffering, of please don’t actually tell me attached as Derek stares blank faced at the beer bottle between his fingers—like the last thing Derek wants to do while lounging model perfect in the dirt with his stupid lumberjack flannel is entertain the drunken musings of a hyperactive teenager who can’t stop wiggling around on a tree stump, despite a bunch of teenagers being here on Derek’s behest.
Whatever, dude. Derek can pretend all he wants, but he likes them.
Derek waits: there's plenty of snarky things he could say, could even go so far as to make up some problem—but, instead, he says:
“I’m kinda... horny. I think. From the alcohol, maybe? It’s, weird.”
He doesn't register any of this as inherently weird ’til Derek whips his head up.
He could smack himself.
Jesus fucking Christ, Stiles.
Stiles is of the opinion that a good pack alpha lends a helping hand when it's needed, and Derek's never had a good track record for that kind of thing, so—pardon him if he's a bit... surprised.

Derek opens his mouth then closes it again. For a split second, he seems to consider his reply before remembering that he is wondering if the son of his boss looks fuckable in any way.
The brief moment of sheer horror washing over his face makes the whole ordeal so much more tolerable.

"The pack meeting itself is pretty lackluster. Mostly, everyone is reconnecting, sharing some anecdotes about their time at school or what they’ve been doing at work. Even Derek manages to socialize a little. Stiles can’t help but notice how much more settled he looks. Gone are the skittish, wary glances and deep frown, forced nonchalance.
Now he snarks with the best of them.
Stiles almost feels bad reaching into his pocket to check his notifications."
