He’s sick of listening to the weak gurgling and bubbling from the green slimy liquid in the corner of the cell. It’s possible the captors intended it as a water source once, before it became whatever it is, but it doesn’t look purposeful, it comes out sometimes in oozes, sometimes in spurts.
And the captors don’t care much about them being able to drink, eat, breathe; they wouldn’t have bothered.
