Summary
Jason is only a vertical corpse encased in compact mud when Death reaches down and pulls, tugs him up through the ground. It takes little effort. Death is a sensible thing, but bringing Jason back from the dead for the fourth time is not a sensible thing to do. She is messing with something more dangerous than herself.
He’ll be fine, she thinks. She hopes his father will come get him, thinks of how overjoyed they will be to have Jason back. And so Death steps back. She’ll let the living handle Jason Todd.
Jason dies fourteen times before anyone seems to notice.

Summary
Bruce circles him. He’s barely broken a sweat, highly conscious of the lack of ache in his own muscles. “You need to improve your stamina,” he growls. “This isn’t good enough.”
His tone is cruel, biting.
Tim should lash out at it. He should snap back that he’s trying, that he’s doing his best, that he is improving.
Instead, he just nods, adjusting his stance. He swallows, throat audibly clicking with dehydration. “Again,” he croaks out. “Let’s do it again. I’ll get it this time.”
And Bruce should refuse. He should insist he take a break, should send him to go get something to drink, should tell him they’re done for the night so he won’t be too sore to train again tomorrow.
Instead, he matches his stance.

Summary
Jason has spent a lot of time and effort trying to not get kidnapped on the streets of Gotham, and he’s doing pretty well all things considered. Unless you consider the fact that he’s been abducted by aliens, but Jason doesn’t think that should count because it’s technically not the same thing. Of course the most ideal way this ends is Jason escaping before he becomes subject zero to a bunch of alien experiments, but honestly he’s survived worse in Gotham.
OR
Jason is abducted by aliens, then Tim is abducted by aliens. They make do.

Summary
The League’s base is not built to welcome strangers.
Bruce is not a stranger.
He whips around another hidden corner, not bothering to try and silence the snap of his cape. There are no assassins waiting for him.
On the far side of the compound, another explosion echoes dully, Jason fulfilling his role with enthusiasm.
There will be bodies left behind when they leave this place. There is no time to dwell on it - Bruce compartmentalizes. It is easier than it might have been, some other time, some other mission.
He already found the room where Tim was being kept.

Summary
“I always figured a witch’s hut would look more…” Tim wiggles his fingers over the windowsill, adorned with various kitchen herbs and Rae Dunn pottery. “You know. Hovel-y.”
“That’s because it’s an apartment,” Bruce responds. “Don’t touch that.”
Tim doesn’t know how he knows, considering he’s still inspecting the bookshelves and facing the opposite direction. He makes a face, setting the purple mug that proudly proclaims sweater weather in spindly font back down where he found it.
